Dubai Launches New Dh1.4 Billion Drainage Project to Tackle Flooding

Dubai Municipality recently awarded contracts worth Dh1.439 billion. This is a major part of the ‘Tasreef’ initiative. Specifically, this project marks a milestone in enhancing the drainage network. Furthermore, it is a proactive step to reduce flooding risks across the city.

This move follows the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He continues to push for future-ready infrastructure. Consequently, these developments solidify Dubai’s reputation as a global leader in urban planning.

Understanding the Tasreef Project Details

Tasreef is Dubai’s largest unified stormwater system. Currently, it is one of the most efficient networks in the region. The new contracts support the construction of 36 kilometers of drainage lines. These lines link into the main tunnel to create a connected system.

Key Areas Covered by the Upgrade

The scope of the Dubai drainage project Tasreef covers several critical areas. For instance, it includes:

  • Nad Al Hamar and the Airport area.
  • Al Garhoud and Al Rashidiya.
  • Al Quoz and Zabeel.
  • Al Wasl, Jumeirah, and Al Badaa.

This upgrade will boost drainage capacity significantly. Therefore, it will lower maintenance costs and improve service levels for all residents.

Long-Term Resilience and Future Scalability

Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita stated that this development is a pivotal point. The project aims to increase discharge capacity by 700% over the next 100 years.

“This is a pioneering project,” said bin Ghalita. He emphasized that it makes Dubai a more sustainable city. Moreover, it reflects the municipality’s goals for integrated water management.

A Dh30 Billion Vision for Dubai’s Infrastructure

The Tasreef initiative requires a total investment of Dh30 billion. As a result, it is the largest project of its kind in Dubai. It aims to reduce operational costs by 20%. Additionally, it will extend the life of Dubai’s infrastructure.

This development ensures that Dubai remains ahead in climate resilience. For investors, this means better protection for assets in top districts.
